Uber recently said it is targeting to attach at least one million drivers to its operation by 2018. As the taxi aggregator urged ex-servicemen to become "entrepreneurs" under its `UberSHAAN' initiative, defence ministry officials sought a special package for former defence personnel to become their driver-partners.
'UberSHAAN' initiative was launched in partnership with Maruti and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) last September.
Secretary of ex-service men welfare department under the defence ministry, Prabhu Dayal Meena, said some ground work has al ready been done by Uber and their executives are in touch with Rajputana Rifles in Delhi.

Stating that people retire early from defence services and need to find new jobs, Meena said becoming driverpartner of Uber could be an attractive proposition. "But ex-servicemen need some special package," he said.
Meena was sharing platform with Uber founder and CEO Travis Kalanick and other senior men in uniform besides NSDC managing director and CEO Manish Kumar.
